Nutrilive® is indicated as a source of amino acids for protein synthesis in patients needing intravenous nutrition. Nutrilive® is particularly suitable for patients with basal amino acid requirements. Nutrilive® is also indicated for faster recovery in cases of massive protein loss, such as in wounds, burns, fractures, purulence, and surgery. It is also used in gastrointestinal disorders causing reduced protein absorption, malnutrition (including starvation), renal insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency, chronic or acute infectious diseases requiring parenteral nutrition, and the effective management of cancer.
Adults:
The nitrogen requirement for maintaining body protein mass depends on the patient’s condition (nutritional state and degree of metabolic stress). The requirements are:
0.10-0.15 g nitrogen/kg/day (for no or minor metabolic stress and a normal nutritional state)
0.15-0.20 g nitrogen/kg/day (for moderate metabolic stress with or without malnutrition)
Up to 0.20-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day (for severe catabolism, as in burns, sepsis, and trauma)
The dosage range of 0.10-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day corresponds to 15-35 ml Nutrilive®/kg/day.
In obese patients, the dose should be based on the estimated ideal weight. Depending on the patient’s requirements, 1,000-2,000 ml of Nutrilive® may be infused intravenously over 24 hours. Nutrilive® should be infused slowly at a rate of 2-4 ml (30-60 drops) per minute.
Infants and Children: For children and infants, an infusion rate of 28-35 ml/kg body weight per day is recommended, with a stepwise increase in the rate of administration during the first week.
Nutrilive® is usually well tolerated. However, nausea, vomiting, flushing, and sweating have been observed when Nutrilive® is infused at rates exceeding the recommended maximum. Hypersensitivity reactions have been reported. As with all hypertonic infusion solutions, thrombophlebitis may occur when peripheral veins are used. The incidence may be reduced by the simultaneous infusion of a 10% fat emulsion. If given to severely ill premature infants, hyperphenylalaninemia may occur.
Nutrilive® is contraindicated in patients with inborn errors of amino acid metabolism, irreversible liver damage, and severe uremia when dialysis facilities are not available.
The successful and safe administration of amino acid solutions during pregnancy in humans has been reported.
At the recommended dosage, the amino acids in Nutrilive® solutions have no pharmacological effects and are not expected to interact with other medications.
Nutrilive® containing amino acids should not be mixed with other preparations due to the increased risk of microbial contamination and incompatibility.
Hyperphenylalaninemia has been noted in severely ill premature infants. In these patients, monitoring of phenylalanine levels is recommended, and the infusion rate should be adjusted as needed.
Do not use if the solution is turbid or contains particles. Discard any unused portion.
Protect from light and store at a temperature between 15°C to 25°C. Avoid freezing.
Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
