Neural® is a Mecobalamin preparation used as a drug for peripheral neuropathies. Biochemically, Mecobalamin is a B12-containing coenzyme with an active methyl base. It participates in transmethylation reactions and is the most active of all B12 homologs in the body in terms of nucleic acid, protein, and lipid metabolism. Neural® acts to repair damaged nerve tissue in nerve disorders such as axonal degeneration and demyelination. Additionally, it is involved in erythroblast maturation, promotion of erythroblast division, and heme synthesis, thereby improving blood status in megaloblastic anemia.
Neural® is indicated for the treatment of:
Peripheral neuropathies
Diabetic neuropathy
Drug-induced neuropathy
Alzheimer's disease
Parkinson's disease
Vertebral syndrome
Nerve compression syndrome
Diabetic retinopathy
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis
Intercostal neuralgia
Entrapment neuropathy
Lumbago
For adults, the usual oral dosage is one Neural® tablet (1.5 mg of Mecobalamin) three times daily. The dosage should be adjusted according to the patient's age and severity of symptoms.
Neural® is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Mecobalamin.
Mecobalamin should not be used for more than one month unless it is found to be effective. Prolonged use of large doses is not recommended for individuals whose occupation involves handling mercury or mercury compounds.
Neural® is not recommended for use during pregnancy and lactation.
Commonly observed adverse reactions include:
Gastrointestinal
Anorexia
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Hypersensitivity Reactions
Rash (If this occurs, treatment should be discontinued).
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
Neural® is unstable in light and must be protected from light.
