Tiotropium is a long-acting antimuscarinic bronchodilator (anticholinergic) that relaxes airway muscles by blocking M3 receptors. This leads to sustained bronchodilation for more than 24 hours, helping patients breathe more easily. The effect is localized mainly to the lungs.
Adults (18+ years): 18 mcg (1 capsule) once daily, inhaled using the device provided.
The capsule contents are only for inhalation and should never be swallowed.
No dose adjustment is necessary for elderly patients or those with liver/ kidney issues, but close monitoring is recommended in moderate to severe kidney impairment.
Cimetidine may slightly increase Tiotropium levels in the body.Ranitidine shows no significant interaction.
Do not use in patients allergic to atropine derivatives (e.g., ipratropium) or any ingredient in this medicine.
Most common: Dry mouth (generally mild and temporary)
Others may include constipation, increased heart rate, blurred vision, glaucoma, urinary difficulty, and urinary retention.
Classified as Pregnancy Category C – use only if benefits outweigh the risks.
Safety during childbirth has not been established.
Use with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostate enlargement, or bladder-neck obstruction.
Large doses may produce anticholinergic effects, but no serious adverse reactions have been reported even with higher single doses in clinical studies.
Do not swallow capsules.
Store below 30°C, away from heat and sunlight.
