Alcet® Tablet is a formulation containing Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride. Levocetirizine is the active (levo) isomer of cetirizine, known for being a highly effective and well-tolerated non-sedating antihistamine with potent anti-allergic properties. It has a two-fold higher affinity for H1 receptors compared to cetirizine. Levocetirizine acts rapidly and has a long-lasting effect, enabling once-daily administration.
Each film-coated tablet contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride INN 5 mg.
Levocetirizine is indicated for the treatment of symptoms associated with allergic conditions, including:
Perennial allergic rhinitis
Seasonal allergic rhinitis
Chronic idiopathic urticaria
Adults and children over 6 years of age: One Alcet® tablet once daily.
For moderate renal impairment (Creatinine Clearance 30–49 ml/min): One Alcet® tablet every two days.
For severe renal impairment (Creatinine Clearance <30 ml/min): The dosing interval should be increased to every three days.
Patients with end-stage renal disease (Creatinine Clearance <10 ml/min): Do not administer Alcet®.
The tablet should be swallowed whole with liquid and may be taken with or without food.
Levocetirizine is generally well-tolerated. However, rare side effects include:
Headache
Dry mouth
Fatigue
Skin rash
